Sunny: When we were in Malibu, I was reading a book called The Experience of God where Ram Dass, Wayne Dyer, Louise Hay and others had written their experiences of God, and how they were connected. Of course, me looking for god (believing I was separate), didn’t feel connected at all, I was in this state of anguish two or three hours into reading this book, and out of nowhere, this massive blanket of compassion comes over me and comforts me, and along with that this instant recognition that god loves me. What was interesting is that I knew it was Shiva even though I thought he was fierce and the god of destruction. My heart was full of Shiva flavored love.
Shoma: Shiva’s been in my life for the last two decades, and I feel him when I try to renew and rebuild myself. During my pilgrimage to Kailash, the abode of Shiva, I had a sprained ankle and did the 30-mile hike with a brace around my leg. I chanted his name with every step and there was a lot of help from Shiva because I was going faster than I would have without a cast! This painting has been created to convey that same feeling where it was less of myself and more of his presence and it felt like surrendering more than creating.
